Lou Lou arrived into our care from one of the pounds we work closely with after being found as a stray. Sadly, despite waiting, no one came forward to claim her.
When Lou Lou first arrived, she was in heart-breaking condition. Her coat was so severely matted that it was pulling tightly on her skin, causing her significant pain and discomfort. Her skin was sore, inflamed, hot, and sticky to the touch, and her nails had become so overgrown that she struggled to walk comfortably.
We booked her straight into the vets for a full health check and an urgent welfare groom. Due to the severity of the matting, she had to be shaved right back to the skin. Thankfully, apart from her skin condition, Lou Lou passed her health check with flying colours.
She is currently receiving medicated baths three times a week to help her skin recover, and we are hopeful that she will make a full recovery once her treatment is complete.
As Lou Lou’s coat grows back, she will once again have the beautiful, thick double coat that Chow Chows are known for. This means she will require regular grooming at home, along with routine appointments at a professional grooming salon to keep her coat healthy, well-maintained, and free from painful matting. The cost of ongoing grooming is something any prospective adopter will need to carefully consider, as it will form an important part of Lou Lou’s lifelong care.
Despite everything she has been through, Lou Lou has been nothing but sweet, gentle, and incredibly tolerant. She has taken every new experience in her stride and has quickly become a favourite with everyone here. She loves a fuss, and as she settles, her cheeky, affectionate personality shines through more each day.
Lou Lou enjoys her walks and walks nicely on the lead. She loves stopping to sniff and investigate her surroundings and has shown no reactivity towards people, dogs, or anything else she has encountered.
She is an extremely dog-social girl and enjoys the company of other dogs. Successful dog meets can be arranged. She has also mixed wonderfully with the resident cats at the Rescue, so we believe she could happily live with confident, dog-savvy cats.
As we have no previous history for Lou Lou, we feel she would be best suited to a home with older children aged twelve years and over.
