Sometimes, the dogs who come into our care need a little extra love, patience and understanding before they can begin to trust again. Beautiful Hero is one of those special boys, and now he is ready to start looking for the forever home he deserves.
Hero arrived into our care from a pound we work closely with. He was extremely bewildered and frightened there, unable to understand what had happened or why his little world had been turned upside down. When we saw his appeal for a rescue space, we just knew we had to help him.
When Hero arrived with us, he was absolutely terrified. It took him a couple of days to begin settling in and feeling a little safer, and it was heartbreaking to see just how scared he was.
Sadly, Hero was also in a terribly matted state, and it was clear he had not received the care he needed for quite some time. His coat was so badly matted and sore that it simply would not have been fair to put him through a groom while awake.
Once we had started building up some trust with Hero, we arranged a welfare groom at our vets. A huge thank you to the amazing veterinary nurses who took such good care of him and carried out his groom. Thanks to them, Hero is now completely matt-free! We can only imagine how much relief this must bring him. His matting was so severe that it was pulling on his skin and causing him discomfort, so we hope he is now feeling much more comfortable in himself.
As Hero has settled in, begun to feel safe and developed a bond with us, we have seen more and more of his cheeky little personality starting to shine through. Honestly, it is just lovely to see!
Behind that frightened little face is a sweet boy who, once he knows you and feels comfortable around you, shows just how loving he can be. He is beginning to learn that people can be kind, that he does not need to be so afraid and that life can be full of lovely things.
Hero’s forever home:
- Hero may need a little time to get to know you, but once you have earned his trust, you will discover a sweet, loving boy who is a pleasure to have around.
- Hero loves his walks and walks beautifully on the lead. He also likes to say hello to other dogs when he is out and about, so he is a lovely little walking companion.
- Hero is very dog-social, and we would be happy to arrange dog introductions with a resident dog to see how they get along. Successful introductions would be needed.
- Hero could potentially live with confident, dog-savvy cats who are used to dogs, with careful introductions.
- Teenagers and above only, please, so Hero can have the calm, understanding environment he needs to continue building his confidence.
- Once settled into his new home and comfortable with his surroundings, Hero can be left for sensible periods of time.
- Hero needs someone who understands that trust takes time and who will let him settle at his own pace. He does not need someone to rush him or expect too much too soon. He needs kindness, patience and the chance to discover just how wonderful life in a loving home can be.
We do not know everything Hero has been through, but we do know that his future should be filled with kindness, comfort and happiness. He deserves a family who will see the beautiful boy he is and give him all the time he needs to blossom.
