Yoda arrived into our care in the most dreadful state.  He had a severe skin allergy, which was chronic, due to being left untreated for a very long time. His ears were also in a terrible state and again had been left untreated.  The pain and discomfort Yoda was in, when he first arrived, due to his skin and ears, was dreadful.  It was awful for him, but it was very hard for us to watch him like that.

It is now about six weeks since his arrival, and before this he spent two months in the pound, so he is more than ready for the next stage of his journey and to find a family who will love him as much as we do.

His skin is doing fabulous. It is no longer thickened, bald, red, sore, or itchy, and the hair is now growing back.  His ears have been treated, and they are no longer sore or irritating him. They are also a lot cleaner than they were after being flushed out whilst he was under anaesthetic for his castration.

Yoda is currently on Appoquel, which is a medication used for dogs with allergies.  We are hoping that once Yoda is settled in a home, he can be weaned off the medication.  He only started on the medication as a precautionary measure whilst we got his skin under control after finishing his course of steroids.

All being well, he will be able to be weaned off the medication, but if Yoda does start to itch again, he would need to re-start the Appoquel and the cost of that per month is around £60, but there are ways of lowering this cost. One of which is getting a written prescription from the vets and then ordering it online. We can talk any prospective new owners through this. Again, we are hoping he can be weaned off the medication, once settled in a home, but we just want to make any new owners aware of the situation.

Yoda has recently had X-rays on both front and back legs due to noticing him walking funny. His front legs do have some deformities in his wrist, but we think it is genetic, and he comes absolutely fine.

His back right leg appears to show a partial cruciate tear. Yoda is in with the specialist for a full check-up where we can discuss our options moving forward, but we are hoping the tear will not require any surgery. However, if it does require surgery, the cost will be covered by ourselves and he will need to be in a home for the surgery to be carried out but hopefully this is a worst case scenario.

We are just hoping that whilst Yoda does have his health issues, there will be a family out there for him.  Whoever does adopt him will be very lucky as he really is the sweetest boy.

Although Yoda has been through a lot previously, he still remains a super friendly, happy, and confident little dog who just wants to be everyone’s friend and for everyone to love him.

Yoda is looking for a home where there is someone around most of the time, until he has settled in, but he can be left home alone for sensible periods of time once settled.

He is clean in his kennel and has been non-destructive.

Yoda loves his walks, but he is not a dog who wants to walk for miles and miles. He is just happy to get out 2-3 times a day, for a reasonable walk, then go home and relax with you. He walks well on the lead and has not been reactive to anyone or anything.

He likes to be social with other dogs. He is very confident and likes to play once he knows them. That being said, Yoda could live with other dogs with successful introductions. We think he would quite like a companion/playful dog to live with.

Yoda has also been absolutely brilliant with the cats here at the Rescue, so he could live with confident cats.

Older sensible children only, due to him being boisterous at times, as he does not always think before he comes barrelling over to you.

He travels well in the car (crated).
