Meet Arnie

Status: adopted
Breed: Shih Tzu
Age: Two years old (approximately)
Arnie is nearly two years old and looking for a special home as he has some fear-based reactivity.
Arnie is a very active little dog who needs a couple of walks a day. He is definitely not a ‘walk around the block’ sort of dog and for a little dog, he is strong and does pull. His last home was with an elderly lady, who was unfortunately pulled over on a few occasions, whilst on walks with him.
Arnie needs careful introductions to new people, so will be better in a home with minimal visitors and he cannot be rehomed with children or where there are visiting children. Arnie has done well when tested with other dogs and could possibly live with another similar sized dog with successful introductions. We have also cat tested Arnie and found that he is barky, but we feel with a confident cat and the right environment, Arnie could get along with one in a home.
Although he is getting better with training, Arnie can lunge and bark at people, joggers, bikes, prams and other things he is unsure of whilst on his walks. He needs to continue his training and continue being desensitized to seeing the things he reacts to.
Arnie’s new family must be willing to visit him a few times at the Rescue beforehand, in order to build up a bond with him, so living local is a must.
